Monash University Policy Principles

The policies of Monash University will sustain and give expression to the university’s values as set out in Monash Directions 2025, and will align with and facilitate the implementation of the university’s strategic framework, Excellence and Diversity. In guiding university practice, they will support the university’s approach to quality and risk management. Policies will assist in compliance with relevant Commonwealth and State government legislation which includes the university’s statutes and regulations.

Monash University policies will meet the following standards:

  • a standard methodology will be used for the development, approval, review and revision of university policy and procedures to ensure clarity and consistency;
  • responsible staff and bodies will be identified to ensure due diligence;
  • policies will be developed and implemented in such a way that the intent of the policy is achievable within the university’s resources;
  • policies will be developed and reviewed in consultation with key stakeholders;
  • policies will be accessible to the university community, key stakeholders and the general public from a single university policy website.

Faculty/division/campus policies are subordinate to and must be consistent with university policies. A faculty, division or campus may have additional policies where no corresponding university policy exists. Where a faculty, division or campus takes university policy to a more detailed operational level, these constitute procedures, rules or guidelines.
