Monash University has the authority to name or rename university buildings, parts of buildings, open spaces and other physical entities and facilities of the University to recognise:
- significant contribution to the university;
- significant contribution to public life; or
- significant benefaction to the university.
Monash University appreciates and recognises the generosity of individuals, businesses and organisations which invest in students, programs and services. Naming physical entities provides the University with the opportunity to recognize and pay tribute to exceptional contributions, whether philanthropic or in the form of meritorious service, that honour Monash University's heritage and legacy. Naming physical entities must be compatible with the vision, mission and values of the University.
Naming may be conferred for a specified period of time, will not necessarily be conferred in perpetuity and remains at the sole discretion of the University at all times. Naming may be discontinued by the University at any time. Individuals and organisations whose names are approved are expected to exemplify the attributes of integrity and civil leadership. Should a donor, for whom a University naming opportunity been made violate these standards the University may elect to remove the donor's name from the naming opportunity.
The Vice-President (Advancement) may, from time to time, establish minimum amounts below which naming of physical entities will not be considered.
The administration of philanthropic and honorific naming of physical entities is managed by the Vice-President (Advancement) and administration of functional naming of physical entities is managed by the Vice-President (Administration).
In relation to changing or renaming schools or academic entities, where a name change is being proposed, it must be supported by the relevant faculty and faculty board or campus where appropriate, and reported to the Academic Board as required.
The final decision to advance a proposal rests with the Vice-President (Advancement). |
