Purpose | To ensure the systematic evaluation of all units at Monash for quality assurance and improvement purposes.
|
Scope | All undergraduate and postgraduate coursework units |
Policy Statement | Student evaluation of units has been common practice at Monash since 1993. The student unit evaluation policy requires that:
- a student evaluation must be taken of each unit each year using the agreed instrument;
- the unit evaluation instrument consists of ten common items (eight quantitative and two qualitative items). Changes to the common items must be approved by the Learning, Teaching and Quality sub-committee of University Education Committee. Up to ten additional quantitative items may be added by a faculty in order to produce a common faculty unit evaluation form of no more than 20 items;
- results from student evaluations of units are prepared by the Centre for Higher Education Quality and published on a common website. Reports provided include university, faculty, campus and unit levels;
- results from student evaluations are systematically considered by schools/departments and faculties in the semester following delivery, as detailed in the associated procedures, with a view to making improvements where necessary.
