Student Evaluation Policy

Purpose

  • To ensure regular evaluation of the student experience through a systematic framework for assessing students’ perceptions of:
    • their academic experience at Monash;
    • the quality of units taught in the university’s academic programs;
    • university and faculty support services.
  • To ensure that evaluations and surveys are aligned with the university’s quality cycle to enable systematic improvements to the student experience.

Scope

All coursework students
All academic and support service areas
All coursework units

Policy Statement

The guiding principles for evaluations are based on the university’s quality cycle of Plan, Act, Evaluate (monitor and review) and Improve. Evaluation surveys ensure that the university’s educational and administrative experience, and the units taught in coursework programs, are subject to regular and systematic evaluation and improvement.

The students’ academic experience will be assessed by the Monash Experience Questionnaire (MEQ) on a biennial basis, alternating with evaluation of their experience of support services through biennial administration of the Monash Support Experience Questionnaire (MSEQ). Each of the university’s units will be evaluated at least once in each year that it is taught.

Survey results will be analysed and made available within three months of administration of the survey, and the relevant organisational units will use the data to guide improvements to academic and support services, and to academic units.

A central database will be maintained of survey results and reports of improvements made in response to student concerns.
