Course Structure Procedures (Undergraduate Coursework)Parent PolicyCourse Structure Policy (applies to courses approved before July 2011) These procedures apply to all undergraduate coursework programs. Exemptions to University Standard Credit Point RangeCourses that are professional in orientation may seek exemption from Education Committee.ResponsibilityFaculties – Dean, Faculty Course Flexibility and ArticulationFaculty Board determines whether electives are relevant to the degree program, and this will be stipulated in official university handbooks. In some instances, the flexibility to offer electives is limited by professional accreditation requirements. In these cases, an exception can be sought from the relevant faculty board.ResponsibilityFaculties – Dean, Faculty Manager, Associate Dean (Teaching). Double Degree ProgramsThe advertised length of undergraduate double degree courses shall be equal to the total credit points for the course divided by 48 (being the standard credit point load per academic year). All agreements between faculties in relation to double degree programs shall identify permissible overload. ResponsibilityFaculties – Dean, Faculty Manager, Associate Dean (Teaching). Cross Faculty ProgramsDepartments whose academic programs clearly overlap the scope of two faculties shall be given full academic status in each (i.e. their units are treated as units of each faculty for the purposes of each faculty’s rules). Exceptions, based on sound academic argument, can be made by a relevant faculty. All agreements between faculties in relation to cross faculty programs shall identify permissible overload.
