Grading Scale PolicyThis policy is effective until 31 December 2008. From 1 January 2009 the new policy will take effect. The following grading scales apply:
Near Pass GradesFaculties determine whether or not to award the "NP’ grade: Where faculties opt to employ the ‘NP’:
The Faculty in which a student is enrolled for his or her degree has the right to make judgements regarding the use of NP grades in allowing progress in the degree. Faculties should advise the Education Committee and the Academic Board of the function (if any) of NP grades in allowing student progression in each of the degree(s) offered. PurposeThe objective of this policy is to ensure that a uniform grading scale for the evaluation of assessments for units and courses is used throughout Monash University. ScopeWhen grades are awarded for coursework units or Honours coursework degrees the following scales should apply: RationaleConsistency in awarding grades across disciplines establishes common standards of achievement across Monash University. This enables students and stakeholders to have a standard measure of the level of the student's mastery of a unit or course. Related Documents
