Deferment Policy

Purpose

To specify the conditions under which, and terms on which, students may be permitted to defer taking up their place.

Scope

All undergraduate students
International students must apply for deferment directly to International Admissions

Policy Statement

The university will allow deferment of study up to a maximum of twelve months, or longer in exceptional circumstances, for all new undergraduate students who apply to their faculty of intended enrolment, except where the student intends to study elsewhere.  In this case, and in the case of Honours courses, the faculty will determine whether the deferment is appropriate.  Any approved study completed in the year of deferral cannot be used to gain credit unless specified in the conditions of the deferment.
